Who Are We?

The Ta'awun Initiative is a nonprofit organization rooted in the values of compassion, community, and giving, driven by young Muslim Americans.

Our mission is to embody the spirit of 'ta'awun'— assistance and cooperation—by engaging in impactful social and community service projects. Through hands-on service, our goal is to strengthen the bonds within our community by providing direct aid, support, and resources to those in need.

The Ta'awun Initiative is dedicated to creating a more connected, supportive, and resilient community.

  • Compassion

    is the heart of our work, driving us to take meaningful action and empathize deeply with those we serve. We believe in the power of understanding and kindness, recognizing the shared humanity that binds us all.

    Abdullah ibn Mughaffal (RA) reported that the Prophet ﷺ said, “Allah is compassionate and loves compassion. He gives for compassion what He does not give for harshness.”

  • Integrity

    is the bedrock upon which The Ta’awun Initiative stands. By embracing integrity, we ensure that our work is not only effective, but also honorable, fostering trust and confidence among our volunteers, partners, and the communities we serve.

    The Prophet ﷺ said, "Truthfulness leads to righteousness, and righteousness leads to Paradise. And a man keeps on telling the truth until he becomes a truthful person. Falsehood leads to wickedness, and wickedness leads to the Fire"

  • Collaboration

    helps recognize that the challenges we face require the strength of unity. By partnering with communities, organizations, and individuals, we harness a diverse pool of knowledge, resources, and expertise, amplifying our impact.

    The Prophet ﷺ said, "A faithful believer to a faithful believer is like the bricks of a wall, enforcing each other." While (saying that) the Prophet ﷺ clasped his hands, by interlacing his fingers.

  • Respect

    is a value that permeates every aspect of our work. It's about honoring the inherent dignity of every individual, recognizing and appreciating our differences, and listening to the voices of those we aim to assist.

    Anas narrated that the Prophet ﷺ said, "None of you believes until he loves for his brother what he loves for himself."
